Sandscapes' Self-drive, Fly-in, and Other Tours - Namibia

We offer no-obligation travel advice for Namibia and arrange personalised self-drive tours, select safaris, and vehicle hires, as well as fine lodges and other accommodation.

Although these tours cater for a variety of interests, they are only a sample of what is possible. Because our speciality is arranging individualised tours, your itinerary can be as adaptable and flexible as your needs and interests require. At Sandscapes, we recognise that it is your vacation and no one else's; you have earned it, you look forward to it, and it should suit you perfectly. 1. The Essential Namibia Tour (self-drive)

The Essential Namibia Tour includes Namibia's premier destinations, such as Etosha National Park, the Fish River Canyon, Sossussvlei and Sesriem, Twyfelfontein, Waterberg National Park, and the Atlantic coast and the adjacent Namib desert. The tour also takes you through a wide variety of Namibian landscapes as well as providing intimate wildlife experiences at country lodges and private game reserves, including animal sanctuaries.

2. Lodges and Country Resorts Tour (self-drive)

Since independence in 1990, responding to the growing popularity of Namibia as a tourist destination, new accommodation establishments have been developed in a wide range of categories, such as hotels, lodges, guest farms, and guest houses. The Lodges and Country Resorts tour takes you to lodges and guest farms that have one or more truly outstanding features. However, whatever its particular features, each establishment conforms to Sandscape's requirements that it should provide not only high standards of accommodation but also fine food and warm hospitality. 3. The Birding Tour (self-drive)

Welcome to Sandscape's Birding Tour! With its vast open spaces, low population, clear air, and numerous national parks and wildlife reserves, Namibia is a prime location for bird-watching. The vistas are excellent and photographic opportunities abound. Namibia has about 620 native bird species, so there should be plenty to keep even the most avid bird-watcher busy. Ross's Louries, Coucals, Babblers, Bee Eaters, Yellow-breasted Hyliotas, Rufous-bellied Herons, White-crowned Plovers, Pel's Fishing Owls and Wattled Cranes...Whatever your fancy, big or small, wet or dry, Namibia offers a wonderful birding experience - and all in a country of sunshine (more than 300 sunny days, on average), open spaces, stunning vistas, and friendly welcomes. 4. The Great South Tour (self-drive)

The Sandscapes Great South self-drive tour takes you from Swakopmund to the Fish River Canyon near the southern border of Namibia on the Orange River and includes premier destinations such as the canyon, the central and southern Namib Desert, Sossussvlei, and Luderitz.  Experience the vast vistas and gentle colours of the rugged but strangely evocative region that Namibians simply call 'The South'.

5. Sandscapes' Rail/Fly Namibia Tour

This voyage of discovery and pleasure begins in South Africa on board Rovos Rail's luxurious, purpose-built train, which visits prime destinations such as the Fish River Canyon, Etosha National Park, and Swakopmund and the adjacent Namibian central coast and desert. The first fly-in excursion takes you to a fine lodge in a preserved wilderness area with access to Sossusvlei, while the second fly-in excursion takes you to the distant northern Skeleton Coast, offering a never-to-be-forgotten experience in a little-visited wilderness area.

 

6. Sandscapes' Honeymoon Tour Namibia (self-drive)

This honeymoon tour takes you from Windhoek to the Waterberg with its unusual scenery and geological features, to a private game reserve on the border of Etosha National Park, to Swakopmund and the west coast, with its rich marine and bird life, its desert excursions, and hospitable charms. Finally, you return to Windhoek on the luxurious and intimate Desert Express.

 

7. Adventure Experience Namibia (fly-in)

This itinerary is luxurious, extensive, varied, and activity-filled, designed to take you to some of Namibia's most exclusive destinations, where, in addition to the magnificent scenery and high-quality facilities, you can enjoy activities that range from ballooning over the desert to guided walking tours, through boat trips on one of Africa's great tropical rivers, to game drives, to game walks, and to having close encounters with rhinos, cheetahs and leopards.

You travel by private charter aircraft throughout this Adventure Experience. This is not only fast and convenient but also offers you a literal 'overview' of some of the most spectacular parts of Namibia, a country of vast distances and very low population density.

8. Extreme Namibia Fly-in Safari

This two week fly-in safari around Namibia visits some of the countries most spectacular areas. These include the Fish River Canyon, the giant dunes at Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert, an exclusive camp on the Kunene River in the Kaokoland region of Namibia, the Etosha National Park and Africat, a cheetah and leopard conservation project.

This is designed to be the ultimate up-market lodge experience and transport is on private charter flights and exclusive transfers. While the cost is quite high, we can use the itinerary as the basis for the tour, replacing some of the flights with land transfers and/or using air taxis instead of charter flights to reduce the cost.

 

9. Namibian Wildlife Tour (self-drive)

 With its vast open spaces, low population, clear air, and numerous national parks and reserves, Namibia is a prime location for animal-viewing and bird-watching. The vistas are excellent, the light is clear, the air is unpolluted, and photographic opportunities abound. Whatever your fancy, big or small, fast or slow, Namibia offers a wonderful wildlife experience - all in a country of plenty of sunshine (more than 300 sunny days, on average), open spaces, stunning vistas, and friendly welcomes.

This self-drive tour takes you from the red Kalahari dunes to the even higher dunes at Sossusvlei, to the West Coast Recreation Area, to the eastern and western parts of Etosha National Park, and to the Africat Foundation, amongst other destinations. Elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, flamingos, pelicans, vultures, bustards, and ostriches - they are all there in abundance. Don't miss it!

10. Namibian History Tour (self-drive)

This tour takes you from the south to the north of Namibia, visiting sites that are associated with great names in Namibian history such as Maharero, Jonker Afrikaner, and Hendrik Witbooi, as well as with the more recent events of the liberation strugggle and the winning of independence. The tour also resonates with significant events and sites from the two colonial periods that dominated late 19th century and most of the 20th century in Namibia.

Namibia is a big country with great distances between destinations.
